In 2004, BOTOX® (Botulinum Toxin Type A) received FDA approval for the temporary control of primary axillary Hyperhidrosis. Botox is a purified protein that can block the chemical transmitters that activate nerve endings. BOTOX® very effectively blocks the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. Now, excessive sweating can be dramatically reduced for many months at a time with just a single treatment of several injections of BOTOX® into the areas that overproduce sweat. Potential side effects may include bruising, pain during the procedure, and temporary localized muscle weakness. These side effects, if they occur at all, are temporary and generally resolve quickly. Please contact our office for a formal consultation regarding the diagnosis and management of excessive sweating.

Excessive sweating of the armpits, hands and feet (primary hyperhidrosis) is a condition that is under diagnosed due to lack of public awareness. Individuals with primary hyperhidrosis sweat far more profusely than what is necessary to maintain normal body temperature. This excessive sweating can be physically and emotionally devastating.
