  • Botox Wipes Wrinkles Away

Botox-Treatment(2)If you’re like most people, you may find yourself wishing that you could turn back time to before aging and the stresses of everyday life began to leave their mark. Fine lines and wrinkles on your forehead and around the eyes and mouth can be distressing. The good news is that a fresher, smoother complexion is possible - no time machine, magic wand, or “growing old gracefully” required!

    Botox and Aging Skin

Apex Dermatology Group, your dermatologists in Denver, CO, provide anti-aging treatments for a broad range of people, young and older, men and women. Botox at Apex Dermatology Group has become the go-to treatment for Denver residents who want to look and feel their best.

Everyone can use a little help dealing with the effects of aging. Some of the many benefits of anti-aging treatment with Botox include:

    • Minimally invasive - no surgery, no bandages, no painful recovery!
    • Preventive - Botox can actually help fight fine lines and wrinkles before they appear.

As people age, the skin’s ability to produce collagen and overall elasticity begins to diminish, which is the most common cause of sagging skin, and the appearance of crow’s feet and wrinkles. Because the aging process varies and affects each person differently, some people will begin to show the signs of aging more quickly than others. Factors like genetics and lifestyle habits like diet and smoking can all play a role in how quickly a person will need Botox to wipe away wrinkles. Your Denver dermatologist can help erase your first fine line in a snap!

Whether you are looking to ease existing fine lines and wrinkles, or to prevent them before they begin to appear, the skincare experts at Apex Dermatology Group in Denver can help. Call 303-261-1525 to schedule an appointment today.

  • Don't be a Turkey

apexchin picsIf You Have a Double Chin

You exercise. You diet. But no matter how good your body looks, you can’t get rid of that double chin… no matter how many steps your FitBit says you take. 10,000 steps? 15,000? Yet the fullness beneath your chin remains.

Now, at Apex Dermatology, we can erase that “turkey neck” before family photos at Thanksgiving dinner – no surgery required.

Last April, the FDA approved Kybella, an exciting new treatment produced by Kythera Biopharmaceuticals, for moderate to severe fat below the chin, otherwise known as the submental area.

    What is Kybella?

Kybella is identical to deoxycholic acid, which is already naturally produced in the body to absorb fat. And it’s so easy and non-invasive, that they demonstrated the treatment live this summer on the Today Show.

Kybella requires 2-4 sessions for maximum results. It entails multiple injections of the deoxycholic acid into the submental area, where it will destroy the fat cells causing your frustration.

Both men and women are benefitting from the confidence boost and younger, healthier look that Kybella offers without the stress or downtime of surgery. Most say the only side effect was minor swelling and a tingling sensation for the few days post-treatment.

    Kybella at Apex

Always investigating innovations in skincare and seeking the least invasive ways to achieve once elusive results for our patients, the team at Apex Dermatology is thrilled to offer Kybella here in Denver. Dr. Alexandra Theriault has been trained by Kythera to administer the treatment to ensure the best results. Please contact our Denver or Littleton offices to learn more and schedule an appointment.

  • 3 Benefits of Laser Hair Removal

laser-hair-removalIf you have unwanted hair, you've probably spent a lot of time and money trying to get rid of it. Shaving, waxing, and depilatories may be a part of your regular self-maintenance routine. But for a more permanent removal and reduction of hair, laser hair removal at Apex Dermatology Group in Littleton and Denver, CO may be a better option for you. Let's take a look at the benefits.

    1. Precision

Laser hair removal uses beams of concentrated light directed into the hair follicles to destroy the hair root. It targets the hair only which leaves the skin surrounding the hair undamaged. It's great for treating large areas such as the legs or back because it quickly treats many hairs at once.

    2. Effectiveness

After 3-5 treatments, 90% of people experience permanent hair reduction. The FDA has approved laser hair removal as a "permanent hair reduction" for its effectiveness at reducing and eliminating unwanted hair. If the hair does regrow, it tends to be thinner, lighter and less coarse than before the treatment. Apex Dermatology Group, with offices in Littleton and Denver, CO, offers laser hair removal using the Palomar StarLux Pulse Light and Laser System, as well as a diode laser for hair reduction. This system offers patients a cooling, comfortable, and highly effective hair removal experience.

    3. Speed

Laser hair removal is performed at your dermatologist's office in as little as fifteen minutes for smaller areas and approximately an hour for larger areas such as the leg or the back. With hair regrowth eliminated or dramatically reduced in as little as a few sessions, this method of hair removal saves time over traditional methods such as shaving and depilatory creams. There is no recovery time involved with laser hair removal and the treatment leaves behind no sticky residue like waxing might. Other hair removal methods such as waxing take an average of an hour per session and need to be performed every four to six weeks. For busy people, laser hair removal can be the most time-saving hair removal option.

To find out if laser hair removal is right for you, contact your Apex Dermatology Group dermatologist in in Littleton and Denver, CO, today for a consultation. The only thing you have to lose is unwanted hair!

  • Common Uses For Dermal Fillers

Skin-CareAs we age, our skin tends to lose elasticity and start to sag. Wrinkles and folds start to form, and laugh lines become deeper. In today’s society, youthful appearances are more important than ever, meaning that the use of dermal fillers has become one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. However, did you know that dermal fillers can be used for more than just smoothing wrinkles? With help from Apex Dermatology Group in Denver, CO, you can have a more youthful appearance in as little as one appointment.

    What is a dermal filler?
Dermal fillers use either natural or synthetic material that is injected into the skin to plump that area. There are many different kinds of dermal fillers, used for different things. Though they can be used in conjunction, it is important to remember that Botox and dermal fillers are two different treatments with different results. Botox stops the movement of the muscles to prevent wrinkles from forming while dermal fillers plump the areas around the injection site.

What are dermal fillers used for?
Different fillers are used for different things, including:

    • smoothing wrinkles
    • filling in folds and deep creases
    • filling in depressions under the eyes
    • plumping the hollows or apples of the cheeks
    • making scars less visible by evening out the surrounding skin
    • plumping lips

How long do results from dermal fillers last?
The results of dermal fillers can be seen immediately, and last from six months to several years, depending on the location of the injection site and type of filler used. Patients require ongoing sessions since the filler eventually breaks down. Synthetic fillers tend to last longer than natural options, but carry a higher chance of side effects.

Younger looking skin can be achieved with the help of Apex Dermatology Group in Denver, CO. If you would like to schedule an appointment for dermal fillers, call (303) 261-1525 today!

  • FAQs about Fractional Laser Resurfacing

Has a lifetime of sun exposure or the normal aging process left your skin looking wrinkled, damaged, discolored or saggy? Would you like to recapture your beautiful, youthful complexion once again? If so, fractional laser resurfacing from a dermatologist at Apex Dermatology Group in Littleton may be just the procedure you need to look and feel your best.

    What is Fractional Laser Resurfacing?

Fractional laser resurfacing is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that resurfaces your skin, erasing your imperfections and leaving you with a beautiful, youthful complexion. A cosmetic procedure that bridges the gap between ablative and non-ablative laser techniques, fractional laser resurfacing offers the dramatic results of ablative treatments as well as the gentleness of non-ablative lasers for a procedure that requires minimal downtime.

How Does Fractional Laser Resurfacing Work?

With fractional laser resurfacing, your Littleton dermatologist will use a laser light to target small microthermal treatment zones, effectively erasing your wrinkles, dark spots and imperfections bit by bit. Fractional laser resurfacing specifically targets the damaged areas of both the epidermal and dermal layers while sparing the healthy tissue, which results in a faster recovery period.

What Benefits Does Fractional Laser Resurfacing Offer?

Fractional laser resurfacing can be used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, erase sun spots and age spots, and get rid of acne scaring. It can be used on all skin types and on any part of the body, especially the neck, chest and hands. The common side effects are mild, the procedure can be combined with other treatments, and the downtime is minimal. In fact, most patients are able to return to work and other daily activities as soon as the next day after treatment.

  • Botox Takes Years Off Your Skin

Botox-Treatment(2)When you look in the mirror, do you see a face that is glowing and youthful or old and tired? If your fine lines and wrinkles are causing you to look and feel older than you actually are, it may be time to visit Alexandra Theriault, M.D. at Apex Dermatology Group in Littleton to ask about Botox.

A multi-purpose prescription medication, Botox is used to treat a wide variety of conditions. The most commonly known use for Botox, however, is in treating and diminishing the appearance of the fine lines, crow's feet and wrinkles that make you look older than you actually are. With Botox, you can reclaim your beautiful, youthful appearance once again.

    How Does Botox Work?

Botox is created from a toxin produced by a bacterium known as Clostridium botulinum. When this toxin is injected into the skin, it weakens or paralyzes the surrounding muscles and blocks the impulses of certain nerves. When the muscles are relaxed, they no longer produce wrinkles, fine lines or crow's feet. The result is a beautiful, smooth complexion that looks years younger than it did before.

Botox simply smooths out your complexion, letting your true, youthful beauty shine through.

    What Benefits Does Botox Offer?

While the main reason Littleton residents visit Apex Dermatology Group for Botox injections is to decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, a younger appearance is not the only benefit that Botox has to offer. Botox is also quick, easy and relatively pain-free. A non-surgical option, it is only minimally invasive and requires virtually no recovery time. Botox is considered to be quite safe, and it typically comes with only minimal side effects.

If you are considering visiting Apex Dermatology Group in Littleton for Botox, but you are unsure if the procedure is right for you, what do you have to lose? An easy, safe, and effective wrinkle solution, Botox has helped countless people look and feel their best already, and you could be next. Call Apex Dermatology Group to set up your appointment today.

  • What is Fractional Laser Resurfacing?

Portrait of young beautiful woman with healthy skin

Discover how this cosmetic laser treatment can reduce the effects of aging.

Tired of trying one cream after the next in the hope that you might achieve younger-looking skin? If this sounds like you then you’re looking for a cosmetic treatment that will wipe years off your face and give you the radiant skin you deserve. Your Denver, CO dermatologist offers a safe and effective way to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles while also combating issues like superficial scars, sun damage and age spots.

    What is fractional laser resurfacing?

This cosmetic laser treatment reduces the appearance of some of the most common skin imperfections. There are two types of fractional lasers available and which one your Denver dermatologist uses will depend on the severity of the skin problems you are looking to treat. YAG lasers work on more superficial imperfections while C02 lasers penetrate deeper layers of the skin.

What issues can fractional laser resurfacing treat? Where can this treatment be used?

Fractional laser resurfacing can be used to treat a host of skin issues including fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, sun spots, pigmentation and stretch marks. It can also be used on just about anywhere on the body and compared to other cosmetic treatments is most effective at treating problems on the chest, neck and hands.

How many sessions will I need to get the results I want?

Much will depend on the severity of imperfections you are looking to treat, but most patients get the results they want in just one to five treatment sessions. Your Denver, CO dermatologist can help you determine how many treatments you’ll need to get the desired results.

What should I expect when I get fractional laser resurfacing in Denver?

Fractional laser treatment uses a handheld device that scans over the treatment area, penetrating through the top layers of the skin to remove the outermost layer of dead skin and to stimulate new collagen production. As collagen is restructured it will smooth out fine lines, wrinkles and scars. Each session takes between 15 to 45 minutes depending on the size of the area we are treating.

Are there side effects of this treatment?

Immediately after your treatment, your skin may experience a sensation similar to a light sunburn. Some patients also experience slight redness and inflammation afterwards, which goes away after a couple of days.

If you are interested in dramatically changing the look of your skin then it’s time to schedule a consultation with your Denver dermatologist today. Call the Apex Dermatology Group and let’s find out if fractional laser resurfacing is right for you.

  • Apex Offers New Service: Micro-Needling

At Apex Dermatology, we are frequently asked what can be done during the fun-in-the-sun summer months to improve the way your skin looks.

This summer, for the first time, Apex is introducing our patients to micro-needling – a new way to minimize scars (i.e., from acne and chicken pox), fine lines and chest wrinkles. Micro-needling uses a hand-held device studded with tiny (0.5-2mm) stainless steel needles. The device leaves pinpoint injuries that instigate the skin’s natural healing process. Multiple sessions are recommended, spaced four to eight weeks apart.

During the micro-needling treatment at Apex, we apply a growth factor serum on the skin that encourages new, healthy cell growth. We also recommend our Neocutis products post-procedure for optimal results.

In a study published by the Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery, patients underwent micro-needling for facial scarring with more than 90% achieving a one or two grade reduction in scar severity. More than 80% of the patients evaluated the treatment as “excellent” with zero side effects - great news for a condition that has been historically difficult to treat effectively.

After significant research, Apex Dermatology provides the treatment using the ProCell Therapies tool, which offers tips in multiple sizes to ensure effective treatment of different areas of the body. The unique tip design provides for an even distribution of the needle penetration for smoother, more consistent results.

With similar results achieved by laser resurfacing – currently benefitting a number of Apex patients – micro-needling is a more affordable alternative, appropriate for all skin types and colors, and takes only 30 minutes.

To introduce this new service, Apex Dermatology is offering a Special Summer Package:

    • $280/ full face
    • $1000/ four treatments (recommended for best results)
